Guildford Model Yacht Club extends a very warm welcome to you for the first 2010 open event for Footys.Come and enjoy racing your Footy at Abbey Meads Lake, Chertsey and help us to create some fun in a friendly, but competitive atmosphere. Although we have had extreme weather recently we are assuming that our lake will be sailable in 2 weeks time. If the weather goes really cold again it is likely that we will still be able to sail, as our lake is one of the last to freeze over. Weather is unpredictable so we will keep you informed if this changes nearer the date. Keep an eye on our website www.guildfordmy c.co.uk for any further information.

If you have not been before, you can find ABBEY MEADS LAKE easily. From whatever direction you are travelling, follow the local brown signs to THORPE PARK and go to the roundabout at their entrance. Do not enter Thorpe Park, but from the roundabout travel south on the A320 towards Chertsey and you will see Abbey Meads Lake behind the hedge on your left. After a few hundred yards turn left off the road when you see a sign, RADIO SAILING, together with signs to the 3 Valleys Water’s Chertsey Treatment Works and a pair of steel gates. The inner gate may be just closed even though it may look locked, so try sliding the horizontal bar back to open. If you arrive when we are racing later in the day and the gate is locked, unlock the black number padlock marked GMYC with 1812 or ring the mobile number on the ‘GMYC welcome notice’ on the gate if there is a problem. Replace the padlock as you found it, once you are through.

We have a choice of two operating banks on a very large open lake. We are able set North/South courses from the West bank, with access to the water via a landing stage, with steps down from the control area, some 8 ft above the water. Whilst rubber boots are not essential, the grass terrain can be a bit muddy if wet. The landing stage is about 100 yards or so from the access road/parking area. We have a similar set-up for East/West winds on the South bank, but the access road runs adjacent to the grass area, a short distance from the landing stage. We apologise that there are no toilet facilities, but there are lots of bushes! If wet, there will be shelter etc, in our market stall.

Martin Crysell will be the PRO, the 2009 Footy Class Rules will apply and the racing will be conducted using the RRS 2009-2012 modified by sailing instructions that relate to EORS 2009. The relevant notices are as follows:REGISTRATION and measurement check 08.40 to 09.30 hours.BRIEFING - this will start at approximately 09.40 hours.RACING TIMES - the first race will start soon after the briefing at approximately 10.00 hours - no race will start after15.15 hours and any race in progress at 15.45 hours will be abandoned.Copies of EORS 2009 and related SIs will be available on the day.

Please make sure that your sail numbers are clearly displayed on your mainsails; just the last two digits of your boat’s registration number. When you bring your boat for registration, please make sure that it will fit in the ‘Footy measurement box’, as required by class rules.
As well as the presentation of this rather special trophy and prizes for the winners, there will be the officialPresentation of the Chris Dicks Award to Nick Burden for winning the 2009 design competition.

The entry fee will be £3.00, to be paid on the day. Entries and any queries should go to Roger Stollery and may be either phoned through on 01483 421 801 or e-mailed to stollerydesigns @ukonline.co.uk before midnight on Thursday 4th February 2010. The information required is your name, club, sail number, radio frequency that you have in your boat and the alternative frequencies available. Please pass this notice onto those you know who might like to participate. If they have no Footy, we have some that may be borrowed. Please ring Roger as soon as you can to avoid disappointment.

We look forward to seeing you!
