The short answer is 'wait and see'. The new RSD committee will be in post at the end of the month and already Mike Clifton, the Chairman designate, has sent a letter to ISAF, with a view to opening discussions with them as to where radio sailing may be going in the future. It's a clean slate and as soon as there is any news you can be sure it will be disseminated.
Less than 1/2 of available votes were cast. Whilst I no longer have the foggiest idea of whether I would have voted yes or no, my concern is that with such a low poll I hope everyone will still respect the result, put the argument behind them, and support the new RSD in their efforts to take things forward. If Mike Clifton and everyone else involved in the RSD do not get the support they need we will only have ourselves to blame if things do not progress for the good of all radio sailors.
I thought that was quite a good turnout really. In my days with 505, admittedly before electronic communication became so universal, we reckoned an average postal vote was 10%.
Taking into account the amount of debate this vote attracted, a lot of people had very strong feelings about their particular point of view. If that energy that was available for the debate can now be channelled towards making things work well with good levels of communication and execution, that is what will make the difference. The outcome of the voting is a mandate for progress to begin. The vote has decided the route to be followed, but the destination has not changed.
